Whoa, Mama!

When Reese was born, I was super apprehensive about breastfeeding him.  Emmanuel is such an awesome eater...and breastfeeding with him was a piece of cake, so I just prepared for the worst with Reese (because you can't have two great eaters and two non-sleepers in the same family, right?).

When Reese was born, he weighed 5 pounds, 15 ounces.  According to my pediatrician, it typically takes up to two weeks for a newborn to regain their birth rate after delivery.

Well, at Reese's one week check-up, the nurse weighed him.  She said, "Did they tell you he weighed when he left the hospital?"  So, I immediately thought there was a problem, and with great urgency in my voice, I said, "No..."  She said, well, he weighs 6 pounds, 6 ounces...that's some potent breastmilk you have there."

After the nurse checked him, our fabulous doctor came in, and she said, "Carmen, are you breastfeeding him exclusively?  Are you using any formula at all?"  I said, "He's just breastfed." She said, "Wow, that's some powerful stuff you got there!"

So, after a week (well, a week and a few days now), Reese and I are getting the hang of things. It certainly seems, however, that he's got the eating thing down...and he's got the chubby cheeks to prove it!  Now...if only we could make it so that he sleeps better than his older brother, we would be in business!
